click here to play sound Our branch of the Donaldson Family tree first arrived in America before 1755, When a Prof. James Donaldson, a planter, emigrated from Scotland to Virginia. He acquired about 100 acres of land along the Potomac River, in what is now Arlington, VA. That parcel of land remained in the Donaldson family until 1972, when the remaining members sold the land to the U.S. government for $1.00/acre. The area was known as Donaldson Park until 1992. The Donaldson farm is now known as Potomac Overlook National Park and Nature Preserve. But, our branch of that family left the farm about 1825, and we took a different route (through South Carolina) to the Charlotte, NC area, where we have remained for over 100 years. Our numbers are now in the hundreds! Tom's Personal Website: Donaldson FamilyTreemaker Website |
